Rumba

The Rumba sharpens the sence of rhythem
and develops muscle control.

History:

It is the Rumba which, at it's origine, provoqued the movement toward the Cuban and Latin-American dances. Danced to the music inspired by the African rhythems and the Spanish melodies, the Rumba of the American style is the base of the Mambo and of the Cha-Cha in the United States. The Salsa Perpetuated the popularity of the Rumba causing it to travel the world.

Music:

The music of the Rumba is gererally written in the timing of 4/4 and is able to be played in a variety of tempos. Often we find another pulse between the different counts which give us a count of 1 & 2 & 3 & 4. The base steps of the Rumba are counted as: Slow, Fast, Fast.

Characteristic:

The movements of the hanches, very distinctive in the Rumba, called the Cubain motion, is one of the most important elements of this dance. Introduced in the Rumba, the movement of the haunches on the other hand is an element of style common in many of the Latin dances.

Examples of the Rumba and the artists who perform them:

And I Love Her.................The Beatles
It's Now or Never..............Elvis Presley
Besame Mucho..................Xavier Cugat
Neon Moon....................Brooks and Dunn
Under the Boardwalk........the Drifters
