Sometimes called the Brazilian Waltz,
the Samba has a unique Latin rhythm.
History:
Even though the national dance of Brazil conquered the Brazilian high society in the 30's, it appeared for the first time in Paris in 1905. The actrice and singer Carmen Miranda rendered this popular dance in the United States in the 40's. The Samba is still appreciated today because it adapts easily to different tempos. Everyone who finds themselves in Rio must know this dance.
Music:
The Sambas of today are influenced by the Latin Rhythms and by Jazz. The music is written with the timing of 2/4 and 4/4. It is a music of festivity, it is rapid and is associated with the carnival of Rio. The base count is fast and fast or 1 & 2.
Characteristics:
The walking steps and side steps create the base of the Samba. The Samba is primarily characterized by the vertical rebounds. The steps are generally taken by planting the feet. The action is generous and the "pendulum", combined with an appropriate movement of the body renders this dance one of slowness and simplicity for the accomplished dancer.
