Perhaps the only completely American dance, the Swing brings a freedom and ease of movement. The Swing is one of those dances the quickly becomes contageous!
History:
The Lindy arose from the Charleston. It is comprised of "Swing-outs", the " breakaways" and the "shine steps". With the birth of the "Swing" music in the beginning of the 30's, the Lindy climed the social ladder. In August of 1935, in the Palomar Ballroom, Benny Goodman played "Stompin' at the Savoy" in an arrangement of Fletcher Anderson. The version is well known. The dance created a fire in Ballrooms everywhere and is know by the names: "Jitterbug", "Lindy", ou " Swing".
Music:
The Swing Jitterbug, Jive, Shag, Lindy hop, etc. are normally written in a timing of 2/4 and 4/4 with the musical accents on the second and the fourth beat of each measure. The Swing includes two general rythms: the rythm Swing, 1,2,3&4,5,6 or it's equivelent. The Swing is able to be danced comfortably at a variety of Tempos.
Characteristic:
A side step and a tripple (shuffle) followed by a rock step, are the fundamentals of this dance.
