The Waltz offers the dancers a unique opportunity to dance while moving with ease and grace.
History:
Considered as the mother of dance, the Waltz is traced back to the 17th century in the south of Germany. It gained it's popularity with the music of Johann Strauss and evolved to become the Hesitation Waltz of the 20th century. The Waltz has influenced many dances that are popular and danced throughout the world today.
Music:
The music of the Waltz is written in a timing of 3/4, at a medium slow tempo with musical accents on the first step of each measure. The basic count of the Waltz is 1,2,3 or fast, fast, fast. Given a faster tempo, it becomes the Viennese Waltz.
Characteristic:
The basic components of a Waltz are the walks and the side steps. The rise and falls and the sway of the body are some of the characteristics of the Waltz, which give it simple elegance and grace.
